Integrated Climate Risk Management Road Map Workshop and Tool Kit Training
On December 4th, 2018 the Association hosted the validation workshop for the Integrated Climate Risk Management Roadmap for the country’s renewable energy sector. The workshop which was held at the Marriott Courtyard Hotel under the theme Building Resilience Fostering Change, also served as a capacity building opportunity for those insurance professionals in attendance who benefitted from the sensitization and training on the Financial and Insurance Sector Tool Kit.
The workshop marked the completion of the final project activities in the year -long Advancing Climate Risk Insurance Plus (ACRI +) Programme which was undertaken in Barbados. The ACRI + Programme, recognized the importance of disaster risk management and under sourced the importance of insurance as an important successive component in the disaster risk management (DRM) model. Taking on board that not all risk, especially those residual risk could be appropriately mitigated through the processes of Prevention, Preparedness, Response and Recovery. The application of Risk Transfer that is insurance, is increasingly becoming an important mitigating component in the disaster risk management process.
Government’s policy objective to transition Barbados to a 100% renewable energy by 2030 has enhanced the need for an integrated climate risk management (ICRM) approach to be undertaken in the build-out of the renewable energy sector. Tuesday’s validation workshop and sensitization session brought together a wide cross section of stakeholders to share in the findings and comment on the initial work which was done thus far. Equally important was the opportunity provided to stakeholders to better inform the final project outcomes.
